PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? Have you heard all the amazing stories about the underwater life in Galapagos?
If you want to find out but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, the PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience will let you try scuba to see if you like it. We offer this program in a pool. If you like it you can also participate in a optional open water dive.
While not an actual scuba certification, while doing the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Course in the Galapagos Islands you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
How we do it
Our Discover Scuba Diving program is the best in the local market. This is how we do it:
- Knowledge development: Like any PADI course or program there will be a knowledge development section. This is done with a short 30′ video in our on site multimedia air conditioned classroom. You will also be given a copy of the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Participant guide, a required material that will be your reference after the course.
- Confined Water: After the registration, paperwork and knowledge development we will take you to our on site pool. This is known as a confined water session in the scuba world. The pool allows a great opportunity to try the equipment and get comfortable. We will teach you some tricks and skills needed for the experience and get your equipment adjusted and sorted.
- Open Water: The ocean!
Sample Schedule and Program Duration
Here is how your PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience with us will look like:
AM:Â Theory Registration and Confined Water Session
PM:Â Open Water in Punta Estrada (1 or 2 dives)
PADI programs are performance based dive programs, therefore times may vary. However, the format in which we teach this course and it’s fulfillment timeframe is priced on the basis that you will spend 1 day working with the instructor.
Please note that course durations are drastically impacted by the time it takes you to complete the knowledge development portion, usually done as independent study on line or with a personal resource such as a PADI e-learning, a book you buy, the video or mobile app.
The Fun Part
There is nothing like breathing underwater for the very first time. It takes a little getting used to –after all, human beings weren’t designed to do that – but after a few minutes of awestruck wonder, most participants realize how easy scuba diving really is. The biggest challenge instructors have with the Discover Scuba Diving program is not coaxing participants into the water, but coaxing them out when the program is over. The fun part? It’s all fun!
Plus, you can get credit! If your Galapagos Discover Scuba Diving program includes an actual scuba dive in open water, your experience may count toward PADI Scuba Diver or PADI Open Water Diver certification, putting you a step ahead of the game when you decide to go for it.
What You Learn
You learn the basics you need to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. One thing you’ll learn is that you really can breathe underwater and whether you like doing that or not. You will:
- Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how easy it is to move around underwater while wearing it
- Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater and learn whether you can be comfortable there
- Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you take the next step
The Scuba Gear You Use
All the equipment you will need is included in the Discover Scuba Diving experience. You’ll use all the basic scuba gear including a mask , snorkel and fins, a buoyancy compensating jacket that also carries your scuba tank, a scuba regulator to breathe from and instrumentation to monitor depth and air supply. You will also wear a scuba wetsuit and weight system since waters in the Galapagos Islands require so for diving comfortably.
